2015: Royal fathers oppose zoning of guber slot to Abia South

Traditional rulers of Ngwa land in Abia Central zone have kicked against the zoning of the 2015 governorship race in the state to Abia South Senatorial District, urging that the contest be thrown open to all Ukwa/Ngwa people.
The state caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned the governorship race to Abia South Senatorial District, a move that excluded three local government areas of Ukwa/Ngwa from the contest.
Addressing monarchs from the three Ngwa local government areas of Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South and Osisioma Ngwa, which are within Abia Central, in his palace at Ngwa Ukwu, the traditional head of Ngwa land, Eze Bernard Enweremadu, said zoning in the Abia governorship race should be along the two blocs of the state namely, the old Bende and Ukwa/Ngwa.
He said: “There are two blocs in Abia State, the old Bende and Ukwa/Ngwa (old Aba) through which the Abia Charter of equity was drawn. Any zoning should take the two blocs into cognizance.”
The royal father stated that on few occasions when he spoke with the state authorities, he had always been assured that the governorship would be zoned to Ukwa/Ngwa, stressing that any change from this direction would not be in the interest of the people.
His words: “On few occasions I have spoken with the top echelon of this government, I was always assured that the governorship in 2015 will be coming to Ukwa/Ngwa. If this has changed, it is quite unfortunate and it will not be in the interest of the people.”
Eze Enweremadu stated that over the years when the governorship had eluded old Aba zone, the Ukwa/Ngwa was involved in the struggle, stressing that it would be unfair to exclude some of those who were at the forefront of that struggle.
