• Mourns Rimi’s deputy gov
Following hints of his presidential ambition, Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso yesterday met with his aides, saying he was still consulting with friends and political associates.
Kwankwaso stated this at a the meeting he held with his political appointees at the Government House, Kano. He appealed to them to advise him rightly. He said: “As we started consultation on whether to join the 2015 presidential race, we have seen a lot of admirers and a lot of true enemies. Some people who have never met me have sent me copies of my posters, calling on me to join the race.
“Although some of these posters were sent to me since the last two years with a logo of PDP, therefore, I directed my aides to destroy PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) posters and keep the APC’s (All Progressives Congress) until I make the decision,” he noted.
Governor Rabiu said he is now popular as people want to see him wherever he goes across the country. This, he noted, was due to the projects his government has executed as well as his transparency which they want replicated at a higher level.
The governor noted that people across the country and beyond have been urging him to declare his presidential ambition for 2015, pointing out that they assured him of their full support.
He said Nigeria needs credible people that cannot only transform the nation, but bring about change to improve the country, noting that Kano has witnessed a great transformation in all sectors.
Kwankwaso hoped that APC would win the gubernatorial election and indeed, all elections with a wide margin next year, adding that the next governor would find Kano easy to govern.
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso has described the death of former deputy governor of the state under the late Gov. Mohammed Abubakar Rimi in the Second Republic, Alhaji Bibi Farouk, as a huge loss not only to Kano, but to the entire country.
He paid the tribute on Tuesday while condoling with the bereaved family at Kofar Mata area of Kano metropolis. The governor prayed the Almighty to forgive his (Farouk) sins and grant him the highest position in paradise.
The late Farouk was deputy governor between 1979 and 1981 before he was removed from office by the House of Assembly. The impeachment followed the rift between factions of the defunct People’s Redemption Party (PRP) loyal to the late Aminu Kano, known then as “Tabo” and the other, led by Rimi, identified as “Santsi”.
