2015: Why Ndigbo endorsed Jonathan for second term –Iwuanyanwu

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  has confirmed that the South-East geo-political zone of the country has unanimously endorsed  President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office.
Addressing newsmen yesterday on the outcome of the Igbo World Congress in Houston, Texas, United States of America, Iwuanyanwu, who attended the congress as one of the leaders from the South East, explained that various issues bothering the nation were deliberated upon, with participants unanimously resolving that the Igbo must support President Jonathan to complete a tenure of eight years.
“The view of the World Igbo Congress is that President Jonathan as the first Niger Delta person to become the president of Nigeria, must be supported to complete a second term in office and we believe that it would certainly be the turn of the South East to produce the next president of the country after Jonathan, because the South West has had their own share similarly for the North,” he said.
He added that the congress also resolved that Ndigbo in particular and Nigerians in general must join hands with the president to continue to ensure the corporate existence of the country and must not support any government established on ethnic or religious sentiments.
“We have also resolved that everybody must join hands to protect the integrity of this nation. We believe that those groups causing instability are those who want Nigeria to disintegrate. Every Igbo group must unite with Jonathan to fight insurgency,” Iwuanyanwu stated.
He explained that the congress gave its support to Jonathan because of some of his remarkable achievements in the South East including the Second Niger Bridge and and the construction of roads through Onitsha/Enugu and Onitsha/Owerri.
Highlight of the ceremony according to Iwuayanwu was a presentation of a piece of land to the congress by the Imo state government through the deputy governor, prince Eze Madumere who represented governor Rochas Okorocha for the building of a hospital of the organization.
Other dignitaries that also attended the ceremony were the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, chief Emeka Nwogu, minister for labour,Theodore Orji, governor of Abia state, senator Hope Uzodinma and Nze Elvis Agukwe, National coordinator, south east Amalgamation for Jonathan/Sambo.
