Youths, ex-soldiers, others declare total war on Boko Haram

Vow to storm Sambisa Forest
No fewer than 10, 000 youth volunteers, retired military personnel, vigilante and local hunters yesterday declared total war on Boko Haram, saying: “Enough is enough”.
The youth volunteers who besieged the palace of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Umar Garba Al-Amin El-Kanemi, demanding the support and blessing of the royal father, said they  have resolved to enter Sambisa Forest, the insurgents’ famous camp and other hideouts to hunt for the terrorists.
State Coordinator of Civilian JTF, Mallam Abba Aji Kalli, said they were at the palace to seek his blessings and fatherly advice, as the group was determined to go after the insurgents. “We may not have heavy guns like them (Boko Haram), but we are optimistic that with our sticks and other locally- made arms, we will raid all terrorists hideouts and rout them out if given the permission by the Federal Government.
Kalli said the Civilian JTF is now motivated, adding that the group received support and assurance from many retired military personnel, local hunters and other patriotic citizens who have also expressed their willingness to join the group to end the evil being perpetrated by Boko Haram daily.
They expressed dismay over what they described as the Federal Government’s refusal to support them even after sacrificing their lives in the counter-inusurgency operation. Some of them who spoke to journalists said they have declared total war against Boko Haram.
The Shehu urged the youth volunteers to be law-abiding while fighting the terrorists.
He said the emergence of the Civilian JTF  has assisted in dislodging the sect from Maiduguri and its environs even as he called on other communities to set up their Civilian JTF/youth volunteers group to fight terrorism.
“I want to thank you for this visit and the effort you are collectively and voluntarily doing in order to fight Boko Haram who are bent in not only destroying our social and economic structures, but also killing innocent lives. I want to also appeal to you that you should desist from politics, religious or ethnic considerations while discharging your duties to your fatherland. In anything you are doing, you must make sure that you consult all other security agencies so that you work hand-in hand to end terrorism that have been destroying us as a nation,” he pleaded.
Meanwhile, the Shehu, in a statement signed by the Secretary of the Borno Emirate Council, Zanna Laisu Kazalma, called for three days special prayers and fasting from September 4 to tomorrow, urging Muslims to recite specific verses in the Q’uran.
“His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi has called on Muslim Umma in Borno State to commence three days fasting starting from September 4 to 6, 2014. The Umma is equally urged to offer special prayers in all mosques and recitation of Khalimat Shahada La Ilaha Illallah continuously during the fasting period. Also, the Shehu urged on the Christian community in the state not to relent in their continuous prayers for peace and security to prevail in Borno and Nigeria as a whole,” the Shehu said.
