Fight Against Infectious Diseases Can Be Won By Applying The EVD Aproach - John Idoko

Authorities in Nigeria and relevant organizations will need to synergize on research and human capacity development to effectively check incidences of infectious diseases in the country.
Director-General of National Agency for the Control of Aids, John Idoko, made the observation at a workshop on the control of infectious diseases, which held on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to our reporter, “Infectious diseases have become leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for more than 50% of all deaths especially among children under 5 years old. This Abuja workshop is part of many efforts by government and relevant stakeholders to check the spread of infectious diseases in Nigeria.”
Apera Iorwa, Interim director, WAJDE said, “The focus is to build collaboration that will strengthen research capacity and strengthen our health care delivery.”
The Director-General of National Agency for the Control of Aids, Professor John Idoko challenged the private sector to collaborate with government on ways to improve on research works, funding and human capacity development to check rising cases of infectious diseases in the country.
John Idoko said, “Over $30bn is what we spent as capital flight to consultations and treatment we need to discus as a group how the universities, the health infrastructure and the private sector can come together to solve this issues.
A consensus at the workshop noted that the fight against infectious diseases can be won applying the Ebola virus approach.
Algboje Aig-Imoukhuede, President of the Nigerian stock exchange said, “For the private sector, the employees, the customers are subject to these diseases and these issues. The Ebola as example, the impact is very dangerous on host communities, economies and on business.”
