AS PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, WE ARE UNDENIABLY CONNECTED BY THE FACT THAT NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE FROM AND WHAT OUR BELIEFS ARE, FIRST, WE ARE HUMAN.
I have been following the siege incident happening in Sydney, Australia
with great worry and I seize this opportunity to strongly condemn the
actions of a few extremists whom the world has vowed it will never give
in to. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those affected
as well as with the Australian people as they deal with this very
difficult situation.
In October 2013, I paid a courtesy visit to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. In a world where increasing insurgency and conflict is destroying lives daily, as leaders, we must constantly emphasize and demonstrate the need to overcome intolerance of any form. Therefore, our national and global progress and our development depends on our ability to work together to continuously take bold action for a peaceful world - a world where our human values override our distrust of one another.
Let us seek to work with each other to help make our societies more compassionate, more just, and more equitable. All we have is us.
