Boko Haram militants in northeast Nigeria have renamed the town of Mubi, which they recently captured. They have called it Madinatul Islam or City of Islam. They seized Mubi - a commercial hub and the second largest town in Adamawa state - at the end of last month, after clashes with government forces. The government had previously announced a ceasefire agreement with Boko Haram that was supposed to lead to the release of more than two hundred kidnapped schoolgirls. In August the group declared a caliphate or Islamic state in areas it controls in the northeast.
