3 soldiers killed in Mubi roadside explosion

Our Reporter: DAVID MOLOMO, YOLA
Three soldiers were killed yesterday at Marrabar Mubi, about 18 kilometres from Mubi town in Adamawa State which was recently recaptured by troops, local hunters and the Civilian Joint Task Force, when a bomb exploded by the roadside.
Local sources told Daily Sun that the incident happened at 9pm on Wednesday when the combined team of soldiers, local hunters and the civilian JTF were conducting their routine monitoring and supervision of the areas.
In the process, five local hunters in the convoy were injured and have been brought to Adamawa Specialist Hospital where they were treated and discharged.
A military source confirmed the incident, saying only three soldiers were killed and a number of others injured.
However, a resident of Mubi who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he heard an unfamiliar sound as the military convoy was passing on routine surveillance which terrified the residents who had thought that it was Boko Haram insurgents that have launched another attack on the town. “The loud bang we heard created panic among residents as many thought Boko Haram may have re-launched another offensive against soldiers.
“Many people hurriedly ran to their homes while others fled into nearby bushes for fear of being hit by bullets or trapped by the insurgents,” he said.
However, security operatives have modified the curfew in the recaptured towns of Hong, Gombi and Mubi, sequel to the attempts to restore order and normalcy in the areas.
Following all efforts to annex towns by insurgents, the state government reviewed the curfew from 11pm – 5am to 9pm – 5am.
Security sources said the new curfew will take effect between 6pm and 6am till further notice to prevent the escalation of attacks.
‘The curfew has been adjusted to commence between 6pm and 6am till normalcy returns to the troubled areas”, a military source disclosed.
Consequent upon the detonation of bombs in the recent times, the military reportedly intensified stop and search checks as they mounted many roadblocks at strategic points to fish out remnants of insurgents and to prevent smuggling of weapons into the town.
