The Taraba Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) had congratulated Dr Mark Useni, on his election as Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, according to a statement.
The statement, which was issued by the Chairman of the council, Mr Solomon Ajiduku, on Wednesday in Jalingo, urged Useni to use his wealth of experience to usher in a new phase into politics in the state.
The statement quoted Ajiduku as also urging the new speaker to positively impact on the state’s legislative arm.
He appealed to members of the state assembly and the entire people of the state to support Useni to enable him to succeed.
He said "your elevation did not come to us as a surprise, being a journalist with track record of achievements over the years.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Useni, who represents Takum 2 constituency, was elected speaker on Monday, following the resignation of his predecessor, Mr Josiah Kente.
