The Chairman of Nigeria Women League (NWL) and member, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Mrs. Dilichukwu Onyedinma, has expressed confidence in the Super Falcons winning the 2015 FIFA Women World Cup in Canada if they can spend six months together in camp.
Speaking to the media in Abuja at the weekend, Chief Onyedinma, emphasised that the ladies can rule the world in Canada if they can start camping next month December, urging the football federation to also shop for quality international pre-tournament friendly matches for the ladies.
“If I have my way, I want an early camping for the ladies, preferably by December. I know that if they can be in close door camping for six months, I have no doubt that they can rule the world in Canada. It is possible that Falcons can be the first female team to lift the Women World Cup in Africa,” she noted.
She further argued that the women league deserved applause for being instrumental to the achievements recorded by the various categories of the female national teams, stressing that the local league supplied over 90 per cent of the players that prosecuted the continental and international competitions.
“You will recall that the present board of the Nigeria Women League is the first democratically elected board of the football federation. Since we regained our stability, we have strived to reposition the league to ensure that good players are discovered for our various national teams.
“These were very evident with the performance of our national U-17 women team (Flamingoes) in Costa Rica earlier in the year. They played up to the quarterfinals of the U-17 FIFA World Cup. All the players that featured in that team were all from the local league clubs and some grassroots teams in the country.
“The U-20 team, (Falconets) that went to Canada in August and played in the finals of the FIFA U-20 Women World Cup were equally made up of 99 per cent of players from the domestic league. Only one of the players came from a school in the USA.
