Ebonyi LP, PDP trade rigging plot allegations

Just few days after the party primaries of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State, the members who decamped to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after the house split have started raising allegations that the PDP plans to rig the 2015 elections in the state.
However, counter allegation was fired at the LP by the PDP which stated that although the governor of the state, Chief Martin Elechi still remains in the PDP and was at the congress in Abuja, the same time the LP primaries held in Abakaliki, that his kitchen cabinet makes up the core of the new Ebonyi Labour Party.
As the LP claims that PDP was planning to draft National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members to polling units to work as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in the state, PDP alleging that the governor has plans to fund the LP against its interest from state coffers.
“They want to use NYSC members as INEC ad hoc workers, and for whom they have already prepared and sewn 2000 uniforms to dress them as officials and use them to swing the election results in the favour of the party.
“The next plan they have is to stop local government allocations to the state councils to ensure they stifle resources to prosecute the elections. We are aware of the plans and we want to inform the public about it and urge our members and the INEC to be wary of the plot and make sure that this intention is not executed.”
The PDP leadership in the state told Daily Sun that: “We have facts that the resources of the state would be channelled towards funding the campaigns and elections of the LP by Governor Elechi and we call on the federal government and all Nigerians to be wary of this development and watch the governor acting against the interest of the party he claims to be a member. of”
The political development has created new affiliations that cause disaffections among old allies.
For instance, the immediate past chairman of PDP in Ebonyi, Prince Ugorji Ama-Oti called Daily Sun to express his displeasure with news reports listing him as among the people that held the primaries of the LP at the Abakaliki Stadium. Ama-Oti said he was nowhere near the stadium or had anything to do with the exercise.
“I want the report that I was at the LP primaries corrected. I was not there, and if anybody mentioned my name in connection with it, the person lied, and I would challenge anybody making such claims to produce a video of the rally and point out where I was seen.
“I say it without any contradictions that I am a PDP member. I remain in PDP and I have no plans to join any other party.
Even if my ambition to contest the next election does not sail through, that won’t make me leave the PDP,” he clarified.
As the two parties have already produced candidates for next year elections, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji representing the Ebonyi South district called on all political players in the state to exercise restraint in opposition.
