The former minister of health and Peoples Democratic Party governorship
aspirant in Ebonyi State,Prof.Christian Onyebuchi Chukwu,has gone to a
Federal High Court in Abakaliki to challenge his party for declaring
Engr.Dave Umahi as the party's gubernatorial candidate.
In suit Number FHC/AI/CS/1/2015, Prof.Chukwu among other things,is praying the court to nullify the election of Engr.Umahi as the flag bearer of the PDP for the governorship election.
He alleged that the November 8,2014 Ebonyi governorship primary was marred by irregularities.
PDP,INEC and Engr.Dave Umahi are defendants in the suit which was filed on January,28, 2015.
Date for the hearing on the suit will be fixed after the defendants file their defence.
The former minister also shunned the state leadership of the PDP which directed him to appear before a disciplinary committee it constituted.
Chukwu in a statement said: 'My attention has been drawn to the statement signed by the Acting Secretary of our great Party PDP, Chief Simon Anyigor directing me to appear before the state disciplinary committee on Tuesday at 2pm,which was served on me same day.The notice is very short and I am unable to reschedule previous commitments and make necessary travel arrangements.'
Prof.Chukwu added: 'I am already in court of Law as plaintiff with the party and others as defendants since 28 January,2015. Consequently I am unable to appear before the disciplinary committee of the party at this time.'
The important question now is,will the court at this time stop Engr.Dave Umahi from contesting in the forthcoming election?
This is indeed the beginning of ' the real battle.'
