SAUDI KING WARN OF TERROR THREAT TO THE WORLD.

SAUDI KING WARN OF TERROR THREAT TO THE WORLD.

KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDULAZIZ WARNED THE WORLD TO UNITE IN THE FACE OF TERRORISM.. (AFP)

Staff Writer, Al Arabiya News
Friday, 29 August 2014

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz warned on Friday that the threat of terrorism will reach Europe and America if the world does not unite to confront it, Al Arabiya News Channel reported.

The king made the statement during a reception of foreign ambassadors to the kingdom in the coastal city of Jeddah.

Britain on Friday raised the terror threat level to severe, the second-highest level.

The decision was related to developments in Iraq and Syria, but there was no information to suggest an attack was imminent.

“What we are facing in Iraq now with ISIL is a greater threat to our security than we have seen before,” Prime Minister David Cameron said.

He told reporters that while the Taliban facilitated al-Qaeda terrorism, the Islamic State group is “effectively a state run by terrorists.”

He said the ambition to create an Islamist caliphate isn't something that could be ignored.

“We could be facing a terrorist state on the shores of the Mediterranean and bordering a NATO member,” he said, referring to Turkey.

Intelligence and security services now believe around 500 Britons have gone to fight in Syria and potentially Iraq,

Some of the plots are likely to involve fighters who have traveled from Britain and Europe to take part in fighting in the Middle East, Associated Press reported.

The White House said Friday it has no plans to raise terror alert levels in the United States, despite Britain's decision to raise its threat level to “severe,” according to AFP.

“I don't anticipate at this point there is a plan to change that level,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said, when asked whether Washington anticipated issuing a similar warning to Americans over a perceived threat from operatives of ISIS.

The Obama administration dispensed with its previous color coded threat alert level system for terrorist threats introduced after the September 11 attacks in 2001, reasoning it rarely changed and was often unspecific.

Currently, terror threat alerts are issued by the Department of Homeland Security on a case-by-case basis, but there are no current alerts.

NIGERIA 2015: NANS ENDORSES PRESIDENT JONATHAN FOR SECOND TERM.

NIGERIA 2015: NANS ENDORSES PRESIDENT JONATHAN FOR SECOND TERM.

The President of NANS, Yinka Gbadebo, led the National Executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the First Lady, Patience Jonathan,
expressed their support at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation, which passed a vote of confidence on Mr. Jonathan, also presented a certificate of credence to Mrs. Jonathan for her pursuit of peace and empowerment of women and the youth.

“As pragmatic and visionary Nigerians, we can see through the veil of distraction and boldly applaud the Goodluck administration for infrastructural and social transformation,” Mr. Gbadebo said.

“We have unflinchingly determined to put all political detractors and evil geniuses to shame in 2015 by giving Mr President the singular and total support of all Nigerian students.

“As a united association, all students have been mandated to cast their votes for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to emerge victorious and continue the good works of transformation,’’ he added.

Mr. Gbadebo, whose studentship at the Obafemi Awolowo University has been questioned, noted that in order to actualise this, NANS had floated the Nigerian Students Transformation Vanguard to champion this cause.

He commended Mr. Jonathan for his support to Nigerian students and youth by appointing six past NANS leaders in his administration.

According to him, the past leaders included the Ministers of Information and Education, Labaran Maku and Ibrahim Shekarau, respectively.

Others are the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students and Youth matters, Jude Imagwe.

George Galloway 'badly bruised' in street attack.

Controversial Respect MP George Galloway was badly bruised after he was attacked in the street tonight, his spokesman said.

Mr Galloway was posing for pictures with people in Notting Hill, west London, when the incident happened.

The spokesman said: "George was posing for pictures with people and this guy just attacked him, leapt on him and started punching him.

"It appears to be connected with his comments about Israel because the guy was shouting about the Holocaust.

"George is badly bruised but OK. He has bruising to his head and face and is in a pretty bad shape."

Metropolitan Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of ABH and taken to the south London police station where he remains.

The motivation for the attack is unclear but Mr Galloway caused recent offence when he announced Bradford was an "Israeli-free area".

'ISIS POSES A GREATER THREAT TO BRITISH THAN WE HAVE KNOWN BEFORE': PRIME MINISTER WARNS AN ATTACK ON THE UK IS NOW 'HIGHLY LIKELY'.

'ISIS POSES A GREATER THREAT TO BRITISH THAN WE HAVE KNOWN BEFORE': PRIME MINISTER WARNS AN ATTACK ON THE UK IS NOW 'HIGHLY LIKELY'.

A terror attack on the UK is now 'highly likely', David Cameron said today.

The Prime Minister's remarks came after the official threat level was raised from substantial to severe - the second highest - amid growing fears over the number of extremists returning to the UK from Iraq and Syria.

Mr Cameron said ISIS now posed a 'greater and deeper threat to our security than we have known before'. The PM said terrorism was now 'the most important issue facing this country today'.

He also announced that new laws will be passed to make it easier to remove extremists' passports if there are concerns they will travel to the Middle East to join ISIS.

The Prime Minister's remarks came after the Home Secretary Theresa May stressed that there is no information to suggest an attack is imminent, but warned: ‘We face a real and serious threat in the UK from international terrorism.'

GEN. DANJUMA’S LOSES N2BN TO FRAUDULENT EMPLOYEE

GEN. DANJUMA’S LOSES N2BN TO FRAUDULENT EMPLOYEE.

The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigerian Police yesterday charged a special assistant to former Defence Minister, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma (rtd), Mr. Manasseh Obadiah Zorto, before a Lagos federal high court for allegedly defrauding his boss to the tune of about N2 billion.

The accused, who was said to be on the run, could not be arraigned before Justice Okon Abang on Friday.

When the matter came up, SFU lawyer, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN), told the court that the police were having challenges in bringing the accused to court.

He said at the appropriate time, the police would apply for bench warrant for the arrest of the accused, but that the court should give the police more time to arrest him.

“My lord, we are in court today so as not to allow the matter to be unattended to. We humbly pray the court to grant us more time to bring the accused to court for arraignment,” Obla said.

“For now, we don’t want to apply for bench warrant but we will make more efforts to arrest the accused,” he added.

Justice Abang consequently fixed October 2 for arraignment.

According to the charge marked FHC/L/221C/14, the accused was said to have fraudulently used his position as an employee of Tita-Kuru Petrochemicals Ltd, T.Y Holdings Ltd and Central Realities Ltd, all companies linked to Danjuma, to steal about N2 billion from the firms.

Zorto was said to have used his position as executive director and special assistant, finance and investment to the chairman of the companies (Danjuma) to perpetrate the alleged fraud.

In the 19-count charge filed by the SFU, the accused was said to have defrauded the companies about N1.6 billion and $121, 468.

Yemen: Woman burned to death by brother for converting to Christianity

Yemen: Woman burned to death by brother for converting to Christianity

Nazeera-receiving-hospital-treatment-after-fire-attack.-Morning-Star-News-via-SaeedMuhammad commanded: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence, both Sunni and Shi’ite. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the most renowned and prominent Muslim cleric in the world, has stated: “The Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi`i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-`ashriyyah, Al-Ja`fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed.” There is only disagreement over whether the law applies only to men, or to women also – some authorities hold that apostate women should not be killed, but only imprisoned in their houses until death.
Yet in the West, Islamic apologists blandly assert that Islam has no death penalty for apostasy, and that’s that: human rights organizations and Western governments do nothing for these threatened people.
“Woman in Yemen Burned to Death for Her Faith,” Morning Star News, August 29, 2014:
ISTANBUL (Morning Star News) – On the morning of June 9 in southern Yemen, Saeed woke to the sound of screaming. He shot out of bed, pushed panicked family members aside and saw his wife stumbling out of their kitchen, engulfed in flames.
His wife, Nazeera, had been preparing breakfast at about 9 a.m. when she poured liquid from a cooking oil bottle into a hot pan. The liquid flashed, and the bottle exploded. While her four children watched, screaming, Nazeera was being burned alive.
“I rushed out of the room,” Saeed (full name undisclosed for security reasons) told Morning Star News, weeping. “I couldn’t even speak to ask her what happened. All I could think about was putting the fire out and then getting her to the hospital. But my 16-year-old son, he couldn’t stop himself and held on to her, hugging her while she was burning. He got hurt, and I had to pull him away from her.”
About two weeks later, Nazeera, 33, died as a result of her burns. When Saeed returned to his home in a village (undisclosed for security reasons) after her death, a relative told him the unthinkable – members of both his family and hers had taken the vegetable oil out of the bottle and replaced it with gasoline. Saeed knew the reason – many years ago, the two had become Christians and refused to return to Islam.
After living in hiding in Yemen for several months, Saeed was able to flee to the relative safety of another country, he told Morning Star News.
Before the attack, Saeed and his wife had already decided to flee their families and the 99 percent Muslim country on the Arabian Peninsula. They got their travel papers two days before the sabotaged bottle exploded.
Medical Care
After doctors said there was nothing more they could do for Nazeera, friends of the couple were able to secure a room in a hospital in Egypt for further treatment. Nazeera died that day, before they could go.
Saeed was with her when she died. Among her last words to him was not to worry and to take care of their children. Saeed left the hospital and took the two-hour trip back home. There a relative told him that one of his brothers and one of her brothers had conspired against them to punish them.
“I was told by one of our relatives that it was a set-up, and they replaced the cooking oil with petrol, which caught flames as soon as she poured it out,” he said.
When Saeed went to police for help, officers told him to bring witnesses who could testify about the alleged conspiracy to sabotage the cooking oil bottle. His children only saw the explosion and could not testify regarding sabotage, and Saeed’s relatives refused to incriminate the alleged conspirators, their own family members.
“No one will be a witness for us,” Saeed said. “And my family told me that if I was killed and cut into pieces, they wouldn’t do anything to help or be a witness on my side.”
Saeed buried his wife and tried to sell everything left in his home, but family members blocked his efforts. Initially his four children lived at his mother’s house after the attack, but he secretly took them to another country before relatives could take them from him.
His last image of home was his relatives descending on his house, he said.
“I lost the way to support myself and everything we had,” he said. “And when we were leaving, I was trying to sell things we had, but some of my family members stopped it so I wouldn’t get anything. Even the day I took the children to leave [the country], they attacked our house and divided our things among themselves. They destroyed the rest.”
A New Faith
Saeed, 45, was born into a Muslim family in a small village in south Yemen that he would not identify for security reasons.
As a high school Arabic teacher, Saeed read a lot of newspapers to incorporate current events into his classes. In 1997, he was reading an article about a member of the Yemeni Parliament doing something seen as a sin in Islam. Later he was struck by a columnist’s article about the incident urging forgiveness.
“A local journalist wrote an article saying, ‘Why don’t you forgive him like Essa [Jesus] said. If you forgive other people, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive other people, your Father will not forgive you,’” Saeed said. “I heard this verse and was amazed that God talks about forgiveness, and I wanted to know more about Him, but as you know, you can hardly find Bibles in Yemen. I waited, and in 2003, I heard one of my students talking about a Christian radio station that broadcasts for half an hour a day in the Yemeni dialect. That’s how I came to know about Jesus.”
Saeed married Nazeera in 1998. By 2003, when he began drifting from Islam to become a Christian, he had two sons and his wife was pregnant with their first daughter. All of them, including his wife, followed him in his newfound faith.
When people in his village started to notice a change in the way he acted, they started harassing him.
“I was also punished at work,” Saeed said. “In 2003, I was suspended for being a Christian from my work for a year, and then when I returned, instead of putting me back in my place as a secondary school teacher, I was demoted and placed in a primary school. Instead of working in a school about 100 meters away from my house, the new school where I taught was 5 kilometers [3 miles] away, which I had to walk to every day.”
At the primary school, things got worse. He was suspended once, he said, for refusing to donate 500 rials (US$2.40) that the school was collecting from every worker for Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic organization designated as a terrorist group by the United States and other nations.
In March he refused to give a donation at school to a charitable Islamic association affiliated with another terrorist group. A member of the charity accused Saeed of being an “infidel” and then encouraged another teacher to assault him. The teacher beat him in front of more than 1,000 students. Saeed did not fight back, he said.
Persecution from Nazeera’s family was no less severe. They essentially kidnapped her three times in three years in hopes of convincing her to leave “the infidel.”
“But she kept saying that she wanted to be with me, and that she believes in what I believe, and that no matter what, she won’t leave me and the children,” Saeed said.
At least one human rights group that advocates for persecuted Christians and a group of Christians assisting Saeed have confirmed the details of his ordeal. One religious freedom advocate said that while today’s headlines are full of stories about terrorist groups brutalizing Christian communities in the Middle East, the day-to-day life and death struggles of converts often go forgotten.
“Though clearly an extreme case of persecution, this incident illustrates the pressure converts are under,” said the advocate, who requested anonymity for security reasons.
The killing was “a huge tragedy,” he added. “That is not anything anyone should have to go though alone. It is the worst place to be.”
Defying common logic, Saeed said God allowed the atrocity to take place to “strengthen our faith and use us more in His Kingdom.”
“We ask people to pray for us, as we are all alone in this new place,” he said (Morning Star News has confirmed the country, undisclosed for security reasons). “Pray for my children, as now I am their mother and father and only friend. We need prayers for God’s strength and to give us strong faith. I want people outside to know that even if we get cut into pieces, we won’t leave Jesus Christ.”

MY PROBLEM WITH CHIME – ONYEBUCHI, IMPEACHED ENUGU DEPUTY GOVERNOR.

MY PROBLEM WITH CHIME – ONYEBUCHI, IMPEACHED ENUGU DEPUTY GOVERNOR.

" Says battle with his boss has just begun
After three weeks of investigations, the panel set up to investigate allegations against Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi submitted its report to the State Assembly leading to his impeachment on Tuesday, August 26.

Onyebuchi, who said he was out to prove his innocence, told newsmen few hours after he was impeached that it did not come to him as a surprise. He accused the panel of not hiding their bias throughout the period of its sitting. Thus he disclosed that his lawyers had been preparing and would immediately challenge the impeachment in court.

The impeached deputy governor insisted that the allegations against him were diversionary, claiming that his offence was his interest in the Enugu East senatorial position which, according to him, has been reserved for the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo.

According to him: “My problem started when I expressed interest to contest for the Senate seat of Enugu East Senatorial zone, coincidentally against the preferred candidate of the governor. Initially, they didn’t know I will make any impact, they felt they had everything, but when I started making consultations, people I never expected started giving me encouragement and support. He became uncomfortable.

There was a time I received information from somebody that if I did not step down, this move will be made against me. So, I did not believe it and I made it clear before now that it was from the day I expressed interest that I started noticing some hostile attitude from the governor. So, it is not about chicken because when they said chicken, they removed the chicken, they did not give me the proceeds of the chicken or tell me where it is and I did not complain. They saw that I was in Onitsha and could not provide any evidence that the governor instructed me, what they did was to go and forge a manifest backdated and you know when the governor is on vacation, you cannot have his manifest, but they mistakenly got a manifest, back- dated it and labelled it governor’s manifest when the governor was on vacation.” He spoke further on this and more. PETRUS OBI covered the interactive session. Excerpts:

With the PDP door shot against you already, are you now planning to defect to APC?

It is not true and there is no truth to it whatsoever. I am a good party loyalist and it is the PDP that brought me where I am and I don’t have any reason to turn my back on the PDP. I will remain with the PDP whether I am contesting or not, I will not turn my back on the party that brought me to where I am.

If they want to remove me because they suspect that I may join another party, removing me under this circumstance will even make me bitter enough to want to join another party. But I am saying that I will not, because I owe something to PDP and will remain in PDP to pay that debt.

.
How do you see your impeachment?

I do not think that the impeachment took place today (Tuesday); for me it took place the day the panel was constituted and held their first sitting because from that day the panel could not hide their bias. You know what happened with the state House of Assembly when they signed my impeachment also happened with the panel when they were set up. Members of the assembly signed the impeachment before the allegations were made known to them; and I have had the opportunity to read the report of the panel. Yesterday (Monday) evening, a member of the panel reached me and told me that his conscience was disturbing him that he will reach me later to talk to me but he made available to me a copy of the report when I insisted that if he wants to reach me he should make available to me a copy of the report. So, I have had the opportunity of going through the report and I want to say that the report is as watery, as frivolous as the allegations themselves.

Anyone who has been following the proceedings will agree with me that the report was written by the government lawyer. So, I can say that I am not very surprised by the decision of the panel and I can also say that I am not disappointed. I would have been surprised if they had done anything differently. They had difficulty hiding their bias as I said. Any human being, who is doing anything honest and transparent, will naturally be happy to have it witnessed by the public, especially, the media. We have had so many impeachments in the past and I know that no panel has sat in camera because it’s not a secret thing. The allegations against me were read on the floor of the House before newsmen, so one would wonder why they chose to sit in camera if they intended to do anything honest or transparent.

.
Will the impeachment mark the end of your battle with your boss, the governor?

I am not disappointed and I want to use this opportunity to thank the people of the state and other Nigerians who have offered their prayers for me during the past few weeks for their encouragement and support. So, many of them I do not know before now, came out to support me because they believed that injustice to one is injustice to all. I will thank them and tell them that it is not over and as I have said, that after the panel of man, we have a panel where the truth cannot be suppressed. If you read the report, you will know that it took the submissions of the government counsel and suppressed my own views to justify the conclusion already reached before the commencement of the sitting.

One thing that I know that has come out of this is that sometimes there are positive records and sometimes negative records. I think I broke a record with this impeachment when I said I am the first office holder to be impeached from office without allegation of financial impropriety. I took time to read the allegations of all those who were impeached even in the last and present administrations and I see that none was done without allegation of financial impropriety. In each of those cases, there must be financial impropriety, so I am making record or history as the first to be impeached without fraud which leaves for me my integrity intact. I will say that I will continue to work for the people of the state.

I will continue to offer them my services; they have supported me when they gave me their mandate, prayers and support. And I will continue to offer my services to them, I believe I have more to offer. My lawyers will be finalizing the suit they will be filing in a matter of days. Because as I said immediately the commencement of sitting, I met with my lawyers and we were of the conclusion that the panel will find me guilty.

Because you see a situation where they saw a video that showed that I was in Onitsha; that I was there in time; by the time you read the report you will be laughing to yourselves. They said that the video shows that I was there; but that where I sat was unbefitting of a representative of the governor. And, in fact, it is embarrassing and, therefore, they were of the conclusion that even though I was there, that I was not there as representative of the governor or deputy governor but in my capacity as Sunday Onyebuchi. They went further to say that I dissipated energy trying to prove that there exists a poultry in government house; that they were not set up to investigate government house and, therefore, all those efforts did not help in anyway. That they were set up to prove that I operated a poultry farm, and that they are convinced.

One would be surprised for a lawyer to say that ignorance of the law is no excuse when there was no law because the House of Assembly in their notice said a ‘resolution of the House’; and one would expect that they will know the difference between a resolution and a law. So, if you say that ignorance of the law is no excuse, it’s understandable but in this case was there a law? The answer is in the negative.

.
What is your advice to whoever is likely to be your successor?

For whoever would be taking over from me, I will advise him not to operate poultry, rather he should concentrate on rearing ostriches, monkeys, antelopes and if he must operate poultry, let him ensure that he does it with public fund so that he won’t have the same experience that I have had.

If he operates it with a public fund, if he must operate a poultry, that’s okay otherwise let him concentrate on ostriches, monkeys, antelopes and other animals. That’s the advice I will give and I am happy, I am relieved and life goes on; I am hopeful of getting justice from the judiciary but even if that fails, I am still confident that God in His own way and time will give me justice.

.
Are you still in the Enugu East senatorial race?

In a few days’ time, I may be travelling out to give attention to my health; when I come back, I will give full attention to my senatorial aspiration and I am confident that the people having seen that I was innocent of all the charges, from the expressions and comments I got, I believe that the voice of the people is the voice of God. I am confident that I still enjoy the confidence of the people; I am confident that I enjoy their support and I believe it is appropriate that I tap into the goodwill. So, I am going ahead.

.
With your impeachment, you believe you are still qualified to run?

Definitely if you read the constitution very well or Supreme Court judgments, even in the case of Rotimi Amaechi, you will see that if you are removed by a court or administrative panel and they specified the reasons; embezzlement, fraud or financial, check it out. But if you are removed because of chicken or because you operated a poultry farm, I don’t think that the law disqualifies me from contesting. We will leave it; by the time you read the report, you judge for yourself and the people of Enugu State will also judge for themselves.

If the opinion of the members of the House which concluded that those allegations are gross misconduct…they will be able to know the weight of such opinion and they will leave that to judicial interpretation. But I know that I am still eligible to contest and I am going ahead.

.
Are you convinced that you proved your case before the panel?

My lawyers put up a very wonderful performance even in the admiration of those who were working on the other side.

And I believe the case being a very straight forward one, we were able to prove that I did not in any way commit any offence that will justify my being removed by impeachment. We were able to convince them that in all the these allegations… because the panel even went further to start bringing cases that were not mentioned in the notice of impeachment.

They went outside that when they saw that what they had was very watery. They went outside that to start bringing other things that were not mentioned in the impeachment notice. So, I am convinced and I am happy that I have been able to put my story across and the people have accepted that; God, I believe, has accepted that. As I said, one day we will be hoping that we will have an Assembly that will be representing the interest of the people of the state rather than that of the governor or a few other individuals. The members are elected to represent their constituencies; if they had listened to the voices from their constituencies, they would have taken a different position. But they listened to a single voice and took a position. So, I am praying that one day we will get to that stage where those elected to represent the people actually represent and carry the people along.

If I have not carried myself well while serving the people, I do not think I would have received the kind of support, prayers and encouragement that I received in the past three weeks. So, I am happy people still appreciate good conduct and I believe those who may still find themselves in such positions or other positions of authority should conduct themselves well knowing that they are not only accountable to an individual but also accountable to the people. While the whole thing is intended to discourage me from continuing with my senatorial ambition, I want to say that it has rather encouraged me based on the support I have been receiving. So, I think it has achieved the opposite for them because I am more emboldened; I am more encouraged and I believe with God, success will be mine.

Ebola: Outbreak in Rivers causes panic in Bayelsa, Cross River

The spread of Ebola virus disease (EVD) to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, has created panic in neighbouring Bayelsa State as well as Cross River State.
Residents in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, became apprehensive when the news broke that a doctor had died of the virus in Port-Harcourt.
The fear was heightened  by the proximity of Port-Harcourt to Yenagoa.
People were seen in clusters at the popular Ekeki Park, where travellers normally board vehicles to Port-Harcourt, discussing Ebola.
Although vehicles were seen leaving for Port-Harcourt, passengers and drivers took extra measures to protect themselves.
Some quickly dashed to nearby shops to buy sanitisers while others, including drivers, wore hand gloves.
A driver, who identified himself as Emmanuel, said although he was scared of the development, it would not deter him from engaging in his job.
He said: “It is unfortunate that this virus has come close to us in Port-Harcourt. But we believe that it won’t get here. We will take measures to protect ourselves,” he said.
In other places, including markets, people were heard expressing fears over the disease.
The government had earlier set up a task force headed by the Commissioner for Health to take measures to stop the spread of Ebola in the state.
The committee had embarked on aggressive campaigns to sensitise people on Ebola, including visiting the orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Bayelsa State Government had while closing the 2014 Batch B Orientation course charged corps members to lead the Ebola virus awareness campaign.
The governor of the state, Mr. Seriake Dickson, appealed to the corps members to move into the rural areas and educate the people on the causes and prevention of Ebola.
Dickson who was represented at the event in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, by the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Salo Adikumo, asked the corps members to play a committed role in ending the disease.
Like Yenagoa, there was also panic at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) in Cross River State yesterday over a suspected Ebola case.
A worker in the hospital said the scare was due to the appearance of a very sickly patient.
The worker said: “The way the patient looked, it was really bad. So, people started running away from the patient. Even some health workers at first ran away before attending to the person.”
The scare was intensified when a member of the National Conference from Cross River, Mr Orok Duke, took to his Facebook page to spread the information.
Duke said an Ebola patient arrived from Port Harcourt and had been quarantined alongside others who contact was made with.
But the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Thomas Agan, said it was  unfounded.
A text message addressed to Mr Duke read: “I am shocked that someone of your status will post an unfounded story on Facebook to misinform not only Nigerians but the world at large! You know the implications are far reaching!
“Please be informed that there is no case of Ebola both in UCTH and General Hospital Calabar. I will advise you to retract what you have posted immediately sir!”
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Angela Oyo-Ita, said it was not true.
She said: “It is absolutely false. Whoever is bringing that up does not mean well for the state. A sick patient came in, yes, and people ran away. I received a call and acted on it. So they got back to me and said the person tested for HIV. The person came from Port Harcourt.
“It is not true that people have been quarantined in the hospital. The patient was tested for HIV, not Ebola.”
Commissioner for Justice, Attah Ochinke, on his Facebook page reacted: “This is not correct information. There is no Ebola in Calabar. While we encourage people to take precaution, we should be wary of creating panic.
“A woman came in today from Port Harcourt sick and delirious. Medical staff at General Hospital were afraid to attend to her initially for fear of Ebola. Eventually, she was attended to and tests were conducted which proved she was not infected by Ebola.
“It will be dangerous if every sickness is tagged Ebola as people who ordinarily should get quick medical attention may not get it, and we don’t know who.
“Vigilance is high and isolation facilities have been prepared in Calabar just in case. But we pray that we don’t have to actually encounter a case of Ebola here.”
Meanwhile, 82 new border patrol officials have been deployed in the state by the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) to help check people coming into the state from the borders in order to check the disease.
