DISTRIBUTION of the
Permanent Voters Card (PVC) will hold across Ebonyi State from August 15
to 17, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said
yesterday, warning that anyone who fails to get it would not be allowed
to vote in the 2015 general elections.
The
State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sylvester Ezeani,
represented by the INEC Head of Voters Education and Publicity, Mr. Andy
Ezeani, told newsmen in Abakaliki that Ebonyi fell under the second
phase of the nationwide distribution exercise.
Calling on
political parties and the media to mobilize citizens of the state ahead
the exercise, he added that immediately after the distribution of PVC,
the commission would begin the Continuous Voters Registration exercise,
lasting from August 20 to 25.
According to him, “the PVC is
important to the commission because it will lead to the success of the
2015 general election by eliminating some of the past challenges faced
by INEC during elections.
“It is not the commission that
will disenfranchise anybody. The card is a veritable source of
identification. It is important people come out and collect their cards
on that day.”
