MD/Editor-in-Chief for New Telegraph

The Board of Directors of The Sun Publishing Limited and Daily Telegraph Publishing Company Limited have announced man­agement changes at New Telegraph newspapers.  Mr. Eric Osagie becomes the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, while Messrs Gabriel Akinadewo and Felix Abugu would serve as Deputy Managing Directors. The appointments take effect September 1, 2014.
Other appointments, which have since been effected include that of Mallam Su­leiman Uba Gaya and Mr. Yemi Ajayi, Managing Editor and Editor, New Tele­graph, respectively.
Under the strategic restructuring, Osa­gie, Deputy Managing Director/Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Sun, is proceeding on sabbatical to New Telegraph.
A consummate professional, Osagie, is expected to bring to bear on the newspaper his wealth of experience and contacts in the political and corporate worlds.
With a robust journalism career, span­ning over two decades, Osagie rose steadi­ly through the ranks from staff writer, to chief correspondent, deputy features editor and was appointed features edi­tor of National Concord in 1998. He was also Saturday editor of National Interest, and had a stint at ThisDay newspaper in 1995.
He was pioneer editor of  the Abuja bureau of The Sun newspapers in 2002, from where he rose to the position of Editor, Northern Operations, and later Managing Editor. He had earlier served as Special Adviser, Public Affairs and Strategy to Governor Adams Oshiom­hole of Edo State.

In January 2010, Osa­gie was appointed to the Board of The Sun Publish­ing Limited, and served as Executive Director, Spe­cial Services, supervising the editorial and business interests of the newspaper group in the nation’s capital and the Northern region. In December 2013, he was re-designated Executive Director (Publications) su­ pervising editorial, sales & operations and the commer­cial printing departments and subsequently named Deputy Managing Director/Deputy Editor-in-Chief in May 2014. He is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Ed­itors (NGE) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Mr. Gabriel Akinade­wo,  Deputy  Manag­ing  Director, was Daily Editor and acting Managing   Director/Editor-in-Chief of New Telegraph, before the restructuring.
He started his journalism career in 1988 in the Ni­gerian Monitor, and  later moved to the Politics and Features Desks of Concord newspapers.
He joined The Comet on July 5, 1999 and rose to become Group Politics Edi­tor and Group News Editor. He moved to The Nation on July 31, 2006 as Group Politics Editor.
He was Weekend Editor (Saturday & Sunday) of Ni­gerian Compass, and pro­moted Daily Editor in Janu­ary, 2009. In April, 2013, he became the Managing Edi­tor of the newspaper.
Akinadewo, who holds a Master’s degree in Interna­tional Law and Diplomacy (MILD) from the Univer­sity of Lagos, where he also got his first degree, was the pioneer Daily Editor of New Telegraph when it hit the newsstands on February 3, 2014. He is a member of the NGE, and Fellow, Insti­tute of Policy Management Development.
Felix Oguejiofor-Abugu, Deputy Managing Direc­tor, was Editor, The Guard­ian on Saturday and has a rich journalism experience spanning over 20 years.
Suleiman Uba Gaya has held many editorial and management positions, in­cluding being Daily Editor of Leadership newspapers, and rose to the position of Director, Special Projects, before his resignation to pursue other interests.
Gaya currently holds the position of Vice-President (North) in the executive committee of the NGE.
Yemi Ajayi brings on board 23 years journalism experience. He was, before his appointment as Daily Editor of New Telegraph, the Deputy Editor of This­Day. He has worked vari­ously at The Guardian and The Punch, before moving over to The Nation as As­sistant Editor. He had also worked at The Nigerian Tribune as Lagos Bureau Chief and The Sun news­paper.
A former media aide to former Governor Ola­gunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State,  Ajayi has attended several professional media courses locally and interna­tionally.
