Commonwealth Medical Association, West African Region has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure that all necessary conditions that would guarantee safety and motivate as well as empower volunteers are provided.

In press statement yesterday, the Vice President of the Association, Dr Osahon Enabulele also urged the government to provide a guaranteed Life Insurance Policy before the departure of the volunteers.

Osahon who described the decision of the Federal government to send the 250 doctors to the four countries as a bold step in the right direction said: “We also urge the provision of an adequate welfare package, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other support medical facilities.

“In our view, these and other appropriate conditions usually provided for International volunteers will help to inspire and motivate current and future volunteers to join in the global effort. “We encourage the native countries of all volunteers from the West African sub-region to institute proactive measures to aid quick re-integration of all volunteers upon their return from the Ebola ravaged countries,” he stated.

He further applauded the action of the volunteers saying; “Commonwealth Medical Association (West African Region) is proud of all volunteers that have so far offered to help their fellow global citizens in the Ebola ravaged countries. We assure them that their efforts will not be in vain.

“The Office of the Vice President of Commonwealth Medical Association (West African Region) shall continue to offer needed support towards the containment and management of Ebola Virus Disease and all other health conditions plaguing Commonwealth countries, particularly in the West African sub-region,” Osahon added.
