2015: Anenih confirms Jonathan’s re-election bid

South-South endorses him
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Mr. Tony Anenih, has stated that in 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan will run for presidency for the second term. This was just as some governors from the South and leaders in the zone endorsed the president for a second term. Speaking during the tour to the South-South held in Calabar yesterday, Anenih enjoined party faithful to remain indivisible, assuring them that the party was working hard to win Osun, Edo and Rivers states.
He said he was happy that the party was growing stronger by the day in the South-South region, adding: “If we continue like this, the load in 2015 will be lighter than the load in 2011.
“I want the national chairman to go home with a word from the father that, in 2015 President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the presidential election on the platform of the party. He will run for presidency for the second term,” he said.
Advising the PDP national chairman to work hard to ensure that the chances of the party increased in 2015, the BoT chairman said: “The party had worked very hard for this week’s governorship election in Osun and sure of clinching victory in the election.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu, said PDP would ensure that internal democracy prevailed in the choice of candidates for various elective positions in 2015, adding that the party would not entertain any short-cut or favouritism but lead by example.
Meanwhile, South-South governors and leaders of the PDP in zone have endorsed Jonathan for second term.
The endorsement was the highpoint of the stakeholders’ meeting called by Alhaji Mua’zu as part of his zonal tour of the zone.
The leaders of the region, in a communiqué read at the end of the meeting by former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, hinged their endorsement of the president on the giant strides recorded by his administration across all sectors.
The communiqué read in part: “We acknowledge the giant strides of Mr. President in the area of education, agriculture, health, tourism, re-invention of the railway systems, roads and other infrastructural development across the country. It is also notable that there is tremendous focus on economic empowerment of Nigerians.
“In view of his doggedness in pursuing his transformation agenda for Nigeria, the South-South is in full support of President Jonathan’s administration. We therefore, endorse Mr. President for the forthcoming 2015 presidential election to continue his transformation agenda which transcends across all spheres of our lives.”
Governors Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State signed the communiqué.
