Deputy Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service,(NCS) Mr. Augustine C. Nwosu, has identified insurgency in the North as a major challenge to the revenue generation activities of the service.
Mr. Nwosu spoke to reporters at the Bompai headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) in Kano pointing out that the current state of insecurity in the North East is giving the Service sleepless nights given that they are likely to generate money revenue in an environment of peace than in troubled zones.
The Deputy Comptroller General, who is in charge of Strategic Research and Evaluation, observed that arising from the challenges of the insurgency, most of the border stations of the country have been closed for some time now with its implication on revenue generation drive.

He described his visit to the zone as designed to boost the spirits of the men and officers of the Service and to encourage them to sustain their impressive performance, adding that compared to this time last year, the total volume of revenue generated by the officers has improved dramatically.
“From the records, I am seeing so far- because we have just finished having a meeting- the revenue has gone up by 25-30 per cent. And that is a very god news for the Nigeria Customs,” he stressed.
Mr. Nwosu , accompanied by a number of Assistant Comptrollers General of Customs, also disclosed that from next month or thereabout, officers of the Nigerian Customs Service would begin to appear in camouflages as part of their operational uniforms , while assuring that their welfare would continue to be a priority  of the present  management of the Nigerian Customs Service.
