NFF election: We’ll provide level playing field –Umeh

Ogunjobi, Baribote may be unbanned
The executive committee of the nation’s soccer governing body, NFF is set to call its electoral committee to order and instruct it to give all stakeholders a level playing field ahead of the soccer federation’s August 26 election. This much was confirmed yesterday by the acting president of NFF, Chief Mike Umeh who further disclosed that the issue of Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi and Rumson Baribote will be looked into when the exco meets today in Abuja. Umeh told Daily Sunsports that the board is not comfortable with the avalanche of complains that have trailed the election, even as he assured that the protests will be addressed.
“We will look at the issues arising from the entire process and take a decision that will be in the interest of, not only those bonafide members of the family who have been short –circuited, but also of the system. All persons eligible to purchase forms should be able to. There will be a level –playing field for all because we are keen on a credible election that will satisfy the yearnings of Nigerian ball fans and make our country proud,” Umeh said.
He stressed that the exco will today get the report of the three man committee that looked into a possible review of the long ban of 10 and 15 year slammed on the duo of Chief Ogunjobi and Baribote respectively.
“We will take a look at the report when we meet tomorrow (today) in Abuja and based on their recommendation the board will take a decision, but we are ready to ensure that all stakeholders are on the same page.”
Going by the time table initially released by the NFF electoral committee, the picking and submission of forms ended on Monday. But many prospective candidates ended up not getting the forms, no thanks to their inability to reach the committee.
It is not yet clear if the NFF executive committee will seek for an extension of time for the election, a decision which can only be endorsed by the congress.
Umeh had last week postponed the congress that was to hold in Abuja last Thursday, even as he dismissed the one that eventually took place in Maitama as a mere gathering of the friends of Maigari who has since been impeached.
