2015: Abia guber committee urged to be thorough

A political pressure group, Abia in God’s Hand, has urged the seven-man committee of elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominated by the state Governor, Chief T.A. Orji, to fashion out modality for the selection of a credible candidate, ahead of 2015 gubernatorial election, to be thorough and above board in the discharge of its assignment.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Chief Ikechi Okwu, the group described the task before the elders as arduous and requiring thorough thoughtfulness, stressing that the governor relied on their inputs to take a position on who got the ticket.
The group had earlier applauded the governor and the leadership of PDP in the state for their forthrightness in reportedly ceding the governorship slot to Abia South Senatorial District, maintaining that by so doing, the party leadership had given every zone equal opportunity, which the party had been preaching.
The group appealed to the “seven wise elders” to deepen their searchlight on the young men and women who had proven themselves in their chosen careers from the zone
“Abia South has competent and trusted sons, and daughters whose pedigree will prove doubters right,” the group stated, adding that the elders should de-emphasize political experience as most of them who would ride on it had disappointed the people “so far the dividend of democracy is concerned.”
