An early morning downpour that lasted for about seven hours yesterday
claimed the life of a pastor in Ilorin, Kwara State capital. Daily Sun
gathered that the pastor, whose name could not be ascertained before
press time, was trying to create water channel for the flood that was
caused by the heavy rain, when he slipped into the drainage and was
washed away.
It was gathered that the pastor was drowned in the erosion and died before rescue could come his way.
According to residents, the deceased usually volunteered himself to create water channels whenever there was heavy rainfall.
The rain, which started at about 3am and lasted till 10am stopped many people from going for their legitimate duties.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),
Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the death of one person, saying the
deceased’s identity who could not be immediately ascertained as at the
time it was evacuated had been deposited at the University of Ilorin
(UITH) morgue.
