PDP faults lawmakers over Wamakko’s N3.6bn loan request

Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over the approval given the state Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, to seek N3.6 billion loan.
The party said the state House of Assembly approved the executive’s request without considering the implications of the state being financially indebted at the end of the governor’s tenure.
The fund, according to the governor, would enable his government fund some capital projects before the expiration of his tenure in May 2015.
But in a statement signed by the PDP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, the party alleged that the governor’s motive for the loan was the 2015 elections.
The party wondered why the governor took the decision nine months to the end of his tenure.
“The real motive for seeking the loan is to raise fund to finance its (government’s) 2015 election expenses,” it stated.
The party, however, urged the lawmakers to consider the interests of the people in dealing with the request submitted to them by the governor, adding: “The way and manner the House rushed into granting the approval will not augur well for the state.”
The statement added: “The party wishes to advise Governor Wamakko to borrow a leaf from Bafarawa administration, which not only executed numerous people-oriented projects across the state, but also left behind for his successor over N13 billion in the state’s coffers.”
