Insurgency: Senator Ndume cries out over displaced persons

Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Aliyu Ndume, has lamented what he described as the alarming number of internally displaced persons (IDP) now taking refuge in four major towns of Adamawa State.
Ndume, in an interactive session with newsmen yesterday, said he and Governor Kashim Shettima had to endure the long route through Gombe to Adamawa to pay a visit to the victims of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State in four towns of Adamawa State, describing the displaced persons’ condition as deplorable.
Thanking Adamawa State for hosting the victims, the Senator condemned the ceaseless killings of innocent people by the insurgents, saying there was an urgent need to end the lingering insurgency in Borno and the whole of the North East.
“Our hope is not lost, because we are always giving hope and we are always living in hope and praying that the insurgency will soon come to an end. This is not the first time in the history of the nation that insurgency is happening. It has happened before; only that the way Nigeria is handling it is quite different,” he said.
He asserted that his senatorial district was the most affected; saying most    people in the area had left Gwoza. He blamed the persistence of insurgency on poor handling.
His words: “We have learnt from our mistakes of handling the insurgency problem. If the right things were done, it would not have happened in the first place.
“Now that it has happened, there is no point apportioning blame on any person or group, this is the time to look for solution.”
