Tension in Oyo over voter cards distribution

Ladoja, Akala, Balogun, Makinde yet to collect voter cards
Two former governors of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala are among thousands of electorate whose permanent voter cards (PVCs) have not been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Also waiting for their PVCs are Second Republic Senator, Chief Lekan Balogun and governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Seyi Makinde, an engineer.
Complaints trailed the mass distribution of PVCs by INEC from August 15 to 17, while the continuous voters registration (CVR) exercise is expected to hold from today (Wednesday) till Monday, August 25.
Ladoja registered at Ward 10, Unit 13, Ondo Street, Bodija in Ibadan North Local Government Area, while Alao-Akala registered at Sabo Taara Ward 10 in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area. Also, Balogun and Makinde registered at Ward 6 in Lagelu Local Government and Ward 2 of Ibadan North-East Local Government respectively.
Former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, did not pick several calls made to his mobile phone and did not respond to text messages sent to him to know whether he had got his own permanent voter card. Former deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarunmi, however, confirmed that he had collected his own voter , but lamented that majority of his supporters were yet to get theirs.
“I have got my voter card. I registered at ward 12, Ibadan North Local Government Area. Mine is not as important as thousands of my followers, who have been deprived from collecting theirs due to INEC’s negligence. However, INEC still needs a lot to do about this problem, which has become a serious issue in the country,” Gbolarunmi said.
An aide of Ladoja, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the name of the former governor was on No 530 in the voters register posted at Ward 10, Unit 13 at Ondo Street, Bodija but no voter card had been brought to the area by INEC.
Makinde, who spoke through his media aide, Alhaji Akeem Azeez, said he would ascertain whether his name was missing in the voters register or his card was not available before he would decide whether to participate in the continuous voters registration exercise. Urging INEC to improve on the planning of its programmes, he urged all and sundry to cooperate with the commission during the CVR exercise.
Earlier, Alao-Akala, in a chat with newsmen, had said: “How could the electoral umpire say that INEC was cancelling the distribution of PVCs in four councils due to data loss? How did it lose the data and whose negligence was that?  The distribution of the cards was done in three wards in Ogbomoso North and the distribution of the cards in other wards, including mine, was cancelled.”
“I hope this is not a ploy to disenfranchise our people and to rig the 2015 for specific interests as alleged. We won’t tolerate this mess and INEC should not betray the people’s confidence.”
