Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect have attacked Dzagula village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
An eyewitness in the affected area said the gunmen struck the village at about 7p.m. on Sunday as villagers scampered for their safety before the arrival of the insurgents.
He added that they all fled into  the bush, leaving their homes for the insurgents, and believed that nobody was left behind; therefore no life was lost yet.
The eyewitness claimed that they got the hint of the attack before the insurgents arrived, adding that they were able to flee their homes before the insurgents struck.
He said the insurgents were advancing towards Gombi town, the headquarters of the local government council.
As a result of the sounds of the gunshots from Dzagula village, few kilometres away from Gombi town, residents of Gombi also fled their home into bush for the fear of being attacked.
A military source confirmed the attack to THISDAY, saying the military will repel the insurgents before day dawn.
He said at present, there was a fierce battle going on between the Nigerian troops and the insurgents, adding that the insurgents were aiming at Gombi town which was recently liberated by the military.
The source also said the troops were doing everything possible to repel the insurgents from taken over the town.
