Jonathan-Goodluck2
President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said Agriculture and solid minerals were vital for the sustenance of the country’s economy and would be given priority, if he was re-elected.
Speaking at the inauguration of his presidential campaign in Bauchi, Jonathan promised to partner with the Bauchi State Government to exploit the abundant mineral resources in the state.
According to him, with the consistent fall in oil price, agriculture and solid minerals are key if the economy of Nigeria is to be sustained.
He said his administration had done a lot in reviving the agricultural sector, adding that the problems of access to input and marketing had been addressed through the Agricultural Transformation Agenda.
“My administration has revived the agriculture sector and our farmers can attest to that.
“We have made inputs available and accessible to farmers, and provided marketing outfits, thereby, making agriculture a lucrative business.
“If re-elected, my administration will partner with the Bauchi State Government to exploit the huge economic potentials of these sectors,’’ the president said.
In his remarks, the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Muazu, said the party had performed well in Bauchi State, citing key projects as examples.
Muazu called on politicians to be tolerant of one another when campaigning, adding that they must work towards sustaining the country as an indivisible entity.
In his speech, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, urged politicians to shun politics of hatred and violence, and live up to the accord signed by Gen Muhammadu Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan.
Sambo called on Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) and refrain from politics of religion and ethnicity.
He said if God had wished, all Nigerians would have been created as followers of only one religion but He decided to make them followers of different religions.
Also speaking, the Director General, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Sen. Ahmadu Ali, called on the people of the state to unanimously vote for PDP during the general elections, come February.
Ali said God gives power to whom He so wishes, urging politicians to bear that in mind as they campaigned for the forth-coming elections.
The Bauchi State Governor, Malam Isa Yuguda, said that President Jonathan inherited most of the problems bedevilling the country, and had done his best to tackle them.
Yuguda pledged his unflinching support for the re-election of the President.
He appealed to the Federal Government to construct dams to enable Agriculture flourish through irrigation and livestock farming.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Jonathan also paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu, who he commended for his good work. (NAN)
