My problem with Amosun –Osoba |
A national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aremo Olusegun Osoba yesterday broke his silence on the internal wrangling within the ruling party.Osoba spoke yesterday in Abeokuta, while addressing thousands of the party members loyal to his faction of the embattled APC in Ogun State.
According to him, he had no personal political score to settle with Governor Amosun, “but the welfare of over 12, 000 agents and millions of party members, who have been neglected in the state by the ruling government.”
His words: “My grouse with Governor Amosun is based on issues and justice and how to move the party forward and not any personal interest as being insinuated in some quarters.”
He disclosed that as a progressive-minded person, he had done his best for the party and would continue doing so, warning members not to denigrate the office of the governor for whatever reason.
The ex-governor told the gathering that included the members representing the state at the National and state Assemblies as well as other party leaders that he had in the past sold his houses in Ilorin and the one in Ibadan to fund elections.
“Under no circumstance should the office of the governor be denigrated because I have been on the seat of the governor. Hauling insults on the governor will not solve it. Instead, we should deploy brain, experience, ideas and fight based on issues.”
He urged APC members to pity the governor, saying : “Those who are crucifying me today are those that have supported me before. But today they are supporting the government and crucifying me. They will also crucify him tomorrow.”
Osoba appealed to his supporters to await the outcome of next Tuesday’s intervention meeting of the national leadership of the party.
“We are moving nowhere near the PDP and LP under no circumstance. We are progressives and we will continue to be progressives in our politics. So, all the options should be geared towards progressiveness and progressive politics all the way.
“Both PDP and LP are one and the same and they are being used to destabilise South West. We will not be part of the destructive move; at the appropriate time, we will consult on the way forward.”
Asking rhetorically, “is something not wrong so much here (Ogun); when National Assembly members are bad, senators are not good, Osoba is bad. We have to be cautious.”
