Adamawa House orders Nyako to submit expenditure for April, May

Adamawa State House of Assembly yesterday asked the Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Ibrahim Buba Vokna and the Accountant General of the state Alhaji Mohammed Nasir to immediately submit the statutory allocations particulars for April and May to the House.
The House said the state government, through the two principal officials should ensure that the deductions made from the workers’ salaries were paid on or before Friday, May 30 ,2014. Failure to comply with the directive, the lawmakers would regard the action of government as contempt of the House.
The two officials were also directed to submit to  the Assembly expenditures for the two months with immediate effect without which their actions would be regarded as contempt of the House.
The directives were contained in a five-point resolutions passed by the House yesterday, which also asked  the two  officers to submit bank statements in respect of the April and May disbursements.
In the same vein, the House ordered that government should refund over N142 million allegedly deducted unlawfully from workers’ salaries and allowances in May. It noted that the deductions were carried out without negotiations with workers and other relevant bodies.
The legislators also resolved that workers’ salaries withheld for the months of August and September 2012 should be paid to them within two weeks of the resolutions of the House or be regarded also as contempt.
The resolutions were sequel to the summoning of the two principal officials before the House to defend their actions on the deductions made from the workers’ salaries for May as well as the failure of government to pay the backlog of 19 months salaries of newly employed teachers.
