Policeman to die for murder

Osun State High Court, Ilesa has sentenced a police Sergeant, Adamu Baruwa to death by hanging for murder.
Baruwa was arraigned over his involvement in the death of one Kehinde Awoyedo, who was shot dead in Ilesa.
Baruwa was said to have shot Awoyedo with an AK-47 gun on August 20, 2008.
He was arraigned on May 11, 2012 and pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of murder leveled against him. The prosecuting team from the State Ministry of Justice was led by Mr Moses Faremi along with Mr. Bankole Awoyemi.
In proving the case,  the prosecution called five witnesses and tendered some exhibits.
The post mortem report of the deceased was presented by Dr. Omoniyi Esan, a consultant pathologist at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife. The presiding judge, Justice Abdul-Razak Abdulkareem, while sentencing the accused person to death said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that he believed the witnesses brought to court by the state to testify.
He said he found Baruwa guilty after the prosecutors had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Abdulkareem said the convict was sentenced to death by hanging based on the evidence before him to serve as deterrent to other trigger happy people like him.
