Bomb scare in Abuja metropolis

There was pandemonium in Kurudu, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, following rumour of a bomb blast in the area by the Boko Haram terrorist group.
Kurudu is where the Nigerian Army Post Service Housing Estate is located.
Rumour of the alleged blast started at about 8am sending jitters down the spine of  residents, motorists and visitors in the area.
The confusion that ensued resulted in a traffic jam on the only major road in the area as motorists, residents, commercial vehicle operators and Okada riders scampered for safety.
Soldiers on patrol in the area as well as policemen from the Jikwoyi  Divisional Police Station were seen patrolling the area to ensure security and safety.
But while the confusion was going on, Daily Sun gathered that the actual cause of the blast was rock blasting, being carried out by a construction company working on a road project behind the Army Post Service Housing Estate.
Daily Sun also gathered from some residents of the estate that the company had informed authorities of the estate of the blast, which was to take place  yesterday morning since it was a public holiday in order to speed up the construction work.
When contacted, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Altine Daniel, confirmed  the blast but attributed it to an ongoing road construction project.
She assured residents of Abuja not to panic as security agencies were aware of the blast.
As at the time of filing this report, normalcy had returned to the area as people were seen going about their businesses.
