Jonathan visits Chibok today
President Goodluck Jonathan will today visit Chibok, a village in Borno State, north-east Nigeria, where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted a month ago from Government Girls Secondary School, by Islamist terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
President has come under criticism for not visiting the zone despite the numerous attacks that has hit the area.
This will be Jonathan’s first visit to Chibok, since the girls were abducted leading to growing international condemnation and effort to rescue the girls.
A top government official confirmed the President’s visit and will from there proceed to Paris to attend security summit with focus on Boko Haram activities.
Those expected in the meeting are Nigeria’s neighbours Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Benin, and officials from the US, Britain and the European Union to discuss a coordinated response.
The sect leader, Abubakar Shekau had demanded a swap of the girls for it’s members in Government’s prison.
