2015: Cross River PDP coalition declares support for Jonathan

Ahead of  2015 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Coalition in Cross River State has declared total support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid, saying he deserves another ticket to continue his transformation agenda.
Consequently, the PDP group, under the aegis of Coalition of Political Support Groups, said it had begun mass mobilisation of the electorate in the state.
The Director General of the coalition, Mr. Edet Asia, who stated this at the weekend at the formal inauguration of chapter executives of the 18 local government areas and 196 wards of the state, said the coalition made an analysis of the president’s stewardship in office and came to the conclusion that he deserved a second term in order to continue his good work.
Asia said: “The coalition of political support groups in Cross River State, today, declares our total support for President Goodluck Jonathan to declare for a second term.
“We declare that we will work assiduously in every nook and cranny of the state for that aspiration to be realised in 2015. We will do this on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The coalition would also support any candidate that emerges on the platform of PDP for the governorship seat of Cross River in 2015.”
We would also join forces with relevant stakeholders to ensure that a suitable successor emerges for the sake of continuity of Governor Liyel Imoke’s legacies.
“It is natural that whoever will take over from Imoke has to continue with his legacies. Besides, we will mobilise support for the PDP, both at the state and the national levels to ensure its success in 2015.”
Asia made a case for the inclusion of members of the coalition as delegates to the party’s forthcoming national convention, adding that the party in the state must not go to war with borrowed soldiers.
The Special Adviser on Political and Legislative Matters, who represented the governor on the occasion, Mr. Fred Osim, described the group as well organised, adding that with its structure in all the 18 local governments of the state, it was a formidable group in the PDP family.
