Don’t exlude any part of Nwga land from Abia Guber race-group

Chairman of a socio-political group, Odimna Abia 2015, John Mgbeahuru  says moves to exclude parts of Ngwaland whrer the position for the next governor is said to have been zoned.
In a recent statement he said it will amount to undue exlusion of some people from the race should any part of Ngwa he stopped from joining the race to pruduce next Governor of the state. In the statement captioned ‘Abia governorship 2015: Ngwa is Ngwa’ he said:
‘Those who posit that politics is a dangerous game which can be employed to destroy families and relationships certainly have in mind what is happening in Abia State in the build up to the governorship election in 2015. Suddenly, the once homogenous, united and strong Ngwaland is now being balkanized and alienated all in the name of politics.
From the days of agitation for the creation of Aba State, leading up to the pronouncement of Abia in 1991 by the Babangida’s administration, Ngwa people have always been addressed as the Old Aba Division. In fact, their strength could be located in their indivisibility.
But it does appear that the collective decision of patriotic Abia sons and daughters led by the governor, Chief T.A Orji to cede the governorship to Ngwa in 2015 has became a wedge to  that unity and bond. Greed, divisiveness, and even recklessness have reared their ugly heads to threaten this golden opportunity presented on a platter for Ngwa to produce Abia governor in 2015. Agents of darkness have decided to inject confusion and acrimony into the heads of Ngwa with the predetermined result of denying them the governorship. This is evident in the pedestrian argument and introduction of dichotomy among Ngwa people.
Yes, for administrative purposes, parts of Ngwa land, namely Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South and Osisioma local government areas were joined with Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Ikwuano to form Abia Central Senatorial Zone.
Yes, the current governor, Chief T.A Orji is from this zone, being a native of Umuahia North local government. It is for this reason that some people have come forward to demand the exclusion of Ngwa sons and daughters from this Senatorial Zone in the contest for the governorship election next year.
In the first place, the Constitution of Nigeria guarantees the people from this area the right to contest the election. Legally, nobody can exclude them. Even morally, nobody can exclude them for the mere fact that they hail from Ngwaland where the governorship is being zoned to.
Traditionally, Isiala Ngwa as a whole is the heart beat of Ngwa land and you cannot talk or think of handing over governorship of Abia State to Ngwaland and exclude Isiala Ngwa. It is almost an abomination which the foremost Ngwa traditional ruler, Eze Ben Enweremadu can commit suicide for.
He added that excluding any part of Nwgaland amounts to weaning the zone in the contest. Said he:
‘But more fundamentally, though ironically, those with the financial muscle to prosecute the governorship on behalf of Ngwaland, hail from Isiala Ngwa North and South. Again, those who can be trusted and have the pan-Abia credentials with the antecedent to deliver also hail from Isiala Ngwa. Will it really be possible to make an omelets without an egg? Any thought of exclusion  of these heavy weights from Isiala Ngwa may be tantamount to handing over the governorship to Isuikwuato  people with Uche Ogah and Gen Ihejirika warming up to the race.’
‘Just for emphasis, the Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc, Dr Alex Otti whom there is almost a consensus that he is the suitable candidate to succeed Gov Orji hails from Isiala Ngwa. The Accountant General of the state, Sir Gabriel Onyendilefu who is favoured by a section of the Gov’s family also comes from there. Ranking member of House of Representatives Uzo Azubuike who is a pally of the powerful Gov’s son, Chinedu is from Isiala Ngwa. Current Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu who is angling for the job hails from Osisioma. So then, how can Ngwa people hope to go to battle against Ihejirika, Uche Ogah, Dr Iyke Ibeh and other top spenders from Abia North if they exclude their first eleven . Alex Otti for instance draws his support base across all the zones and is not even relying on the strength of zoning to clinch the position in 2015.’
‘Indeed, herein lies the grave implication of the current grand standing by the so called ethnic irredentists who aver that the contest for the governorship should be for the people of Abia South Senatorial zone alone. The zone is a made up of Obingwa, Aba North, Aba South, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West. They are now pretending and projecting themselves as the REAL Ngwa people to the exclusion of Isiala Ngwa! What impudence.’
‘In fact, nobody should look at the second option as unthinkable. PDP in Imo State made that mistake in 2011.  It still regrets that action because Emperor Rochas Okorocha is not about to give up. President Jonathan and Jega’s INEC might insist on one man, one vote, and the government of Abia and PDP will find themselves in the wrong side of the people if they take the wrong decision as being goaded by those who want to truncate the Ngwa project through segregation and nonsensical exclusionism.’
‘That is why those of us in Odimma Abia 2015 are appealing to Gov Orji and Abia PDP to ensure that all Ngwa aspirants, no matter their senatorial zone, are provided the level playing field for the ticket of the PDP ahead of the governorship election in 2015. We make this request mindful of the verdict of history and aspirations of our people. Nobody in his right frame of mind will think of excluding Dr Alex Otti from the PDP primaries when it is clear that other parties will fall over themselves to field him. We should recognize an asset when we see one. After all, that is the hallmark of leadership.’
