United States set to place travel ban on Boko Haram sponsors

...Recommends sanctions and freezing of assets of persons linked to terrorism

Palpable fear and tension may have enveloped the Ali Modu Sheriff camp over fears that the one time powerful man in Borno politics may soon be placed on travel ban and his assets confiscated for his alledged link to Boko Haram, if latest recommendation to the Obama administration by the United States Council on Foreign Relations scale through, KSM News has learnt.

In a latest policy update report from the US Council on Foreign Relations, CFR, former ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell has suggested visa revocations and the freezing of assets of Nigerian corrupt officials linked to the development and support of terrorism in the nation.

The document which was obtained by KSM News indicates that perpetrators and those who profit from the sponsor of terrorism in Nigeria will no longer find safe haven in the United States even as the Obama administration may soon announce publicly its intention well in advance of implementation.

An extract from the documents read:

“To ensure that the perpetrators and profits of corruption find no safe haven in the United States, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, the Consulate General in Lagos, and the State Department’s Bureaus of African Affairs and Consular Affairs should expand the revocation of visas of those found to perpetuate and advocate political, ethnic, and religious violence.

A source in Modu Sheriff camp who relayed the information to KSM News said since the announcement was made yesterday, a jittery Sheriff has had a sleepless night and made countless phone calls to his business associates in the United States. What he expected of his American business partners, that we do not know.

But if the Obama administration implements the recommendation, our sources said, it will be a big boost in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria as the sponsors will no longer be able to meet to the financial obligations of their terrorists network.
