Reports said that the suspect’s compound was close to the Infant Jesus, Infant Road junction in Asaba. Sources said that the suspect identified as Nnamdi (surname removed). It was reliably gathered that the suspect had been complaining bitterly about people who stroll into his compound freely to pluck bitter leaf most times without permisser.
The suspect, out to make an example of the bitter leaf ‘thief’, stayed behind at the weekend to lay an ambush.
When the young girl, as usual, strolled into the compound heading straight to the garden behind the building the suspect allowed her to finish plucking the bitter leaf, quietly walked to her, lifted the victim and took her to his bedroom where he allegedly had carnal knowledge of her.
Police spokeswoman DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, said the suspect upon interrogation said, “I had said if it was a boy or a man that was caught stealing my bitter leaf, I will beat him up after which I will hand him over to the police. But if it is a girl or woman, I will do to her what a man does to a woman. So when I saw it was this girl that does not allow my bitter leaf to rest, I decided to teach her the lesson of her life by descending sexually on her.”
