The Nigeria Governors’
Forum has congratulated the Governor -Elect of Ekiti state, Mr. Ayodele
Fayose, on his election at Saturday’s governorship election in the
state.
A statement issued by the Director-General of the Forum, Mr.
Asishana Okauru, in Abuja on Tuesday, also congratulated the people of
Ekiti State for their conduct during the election.
Okauru said the Forum was also happy that the incumbent Governor, Dr.
Kayode Fayemi, demonstrated what he called a rare spirit of
sportsmanship by accepting the outcome of the election and promising to
work with Fayose to take Ekiti State forward.
He said, “The people
of the state have made all Nigerians proud by demonstrating, again, that
Nigerians, on their own can choose their own leaders on their own
terms, in an orderly manner.
“The peaceful conduct of the election assures us all that the future of democracy is bright.
“We commend the handling of the election by the Independent National
Electoral Commission. We urge all other national institutions and
security agencies to emulate INEC, eschew partisanship and learn to
discharge their responsibilities with professionalism.
“They should put their services at the disposal of all Nigerians irrespective of political affiliations.”
He appealed to the governor-elect to see the election as one in which
there was no victor and no vanquished and urged him to put behind him
the acrimony and controversy that characterised electioneering in the
state in the past few months and begin to work out a masterplan to give
quality governance to the people of the state.
“We trust that Mr.
Fayose will demonstrate the requisite large-heartedness to warm up to
all Ekiti people irrespective of their political affiliations,” he said.
