Don’t abandon Fayose -Ex-gov warns former PDP aspirants

Former acting governor of Ekiti State, Tunji Odeyemi has urged former governorship aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) not to abandon Mr Ayodele Fayose in his campaign for victory in the coming election.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend, Odeyemi urged them to do everything within their powers to ensure the victory of the party in the June 21, election.  He warned that it could be suicidal for the former contestants to sit on the fence during the campaign even as  Odeyemi saluted their courage for being magnanimous in defeat saying that much is still required from them ahead of the poll.
According to him, PDP has come of age and this informed the way and manner the aspirants who lost to Fayose took the matter with maturity.  He explained that what should be paramount in the hearts of loyal party men is how the PDP will be victorious in the poll.
Odeyemi, who was also the former speaker of the state House of Assembly counseled that the unity of the party must not be threatened at this crucial time.  “You will recall that when Fayose left the PDP, he signified his intention to return to the party, I was one of the few leaders who prevailed on them. Many of our leaders were uncomfortable with the idea but I had to address a press conference on the matter that we should encourage Fayose to return to PDP “he said.
He added that, “Whether, anybody likes or not, Fayose is a born mobiliser .And since he returned to PDP ,he had raised the bar of politicking there. There is no doubt about that. So, now he had been picked as the candidate of our party, Fayose has intensified his campaign for support and votes for the party. Even though, I am not a prophet, Fayose is a candidate to beat in June 21 election.
On security, Odeyemi described those attacking President Goodluck Jonathan on Boko Haram issue  as not being true Nigerians .  If they actually love their country the best they could do in this trying period is to offer useful suggestions and advice on how to tackle the menace of insurgency.   Nobody knows it all. But let them pray for him. I worked closely with Jonathan when I was governor in Ekiti, and I know he is very humble and always ready to take useful advice . Nigerians must understand that insurgency is an unusual development and all hands must be on deck to curtail it. Who tells you that when the opposition gets the mantle of leadership things would not get worse? “
