MILITARY QUIZZES SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM SPONSORS

MILITARY QUIZZES SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM SPONSORS
Military authorities yesterday hinted that they have closed in on some politicians believed to be financiers of Boko Haram sect and will soon bring them to trial once their interrogation is completed.
Director of Defence Information, DDI, Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade, told a press conference in Abuja yesterday that the military high command was establishing the link between the politicians and the insurgents.
He however declined to reveal the identities of the politicians, some of whom had been quizzed by the security operatives.
“We cannot give you the identity of those top suspects who are sponsoring the insurgents now until during trial,” Olukolade said.
Some of the politicians are alleged to be leading a media campaign both in Nigeria and abroad to smear the image of the armed forces of the country and their offensive against insurgents.
Last Friday, Gen. Olukolade had in a statement, explained that the Defence Headquarters had been alerted of a plot by some interest groups to embark on a renewed campaign aimed at attracting international condemnation and indictment of the Nigerian military and its operations in the northern part of the country.
The statement further stated that the campaign, which is to rely heavily on doctored and falsified audio visual materials, some of which are already trending in the social media, is to be coordinated and funded by a prominent political leader whose state is under the state of emergency.
“The design is expected to forcefully whip up sentiments of genocide allegedly targeted against a particular religious group. The planners of this multi-media crusade also hope to use it to gain some mileage in the drive to secure international attention as they have not achieved this sufficiently despite previous efforts. The programme which is also meant to reinforce the ongoing media campaign against the military was adopted as an alternative by those who are bent on politicising the ongoing counter terrorists operations in the northern part of the country,” he said.
Nigerian Pilot also exclusively reported yesterday that convicted Boko Haram sect member, Kabiru Umar (aka Kabiru Sokoto) has indicated his readiness to name organisations and individuals he claims to be sponsoring the terror group.
