Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State yesterday flagged off the
construction of three flyovers in Awka, to ensure hitch-free traffic in
the capital city.
The flyovers, which are to be constructed at
Aroma, Kwata and Amawbia junctions along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in
the city, with a tunnel to ensure free flow of traffic, will cost the state N5 billion.
Performing the ceremony at Aroma Junction, Obiano said the contract had
been awarded to IDC Construction Company, which is reconstructing the
expressway from Amansea to Amawbia junction.
The bridges, the governor said, were also part of his administration’s effort to transform Awka to a modern city.
He said the state capital would also witness the construction of the
Three Arms Zone, a five-star hotel, a 5, 000 sitting-capacity conference
centre and a shopping mall that would commence soon.
Governor
Obiano, who assured that all the roads that his administration would
construct in the area would be complemented with street light to change
the skyline of the state capital said: “During our campaigns, one of the
promises we made was to transform Awka and we will not relent in
achieving this. What we require is the cooperation of the people as we
will not hesitate to deal with anybody who foments trouble in the
state.”
