Bomb scare in Kaduna

There was pandemonium yesterday in Kaduna metropolis following the discovery of a wrapped object suspected to be an explosive device at the ever-busy Ahmadu Bello Way, near the popular Sheik Abubakar Gumi Central Market.
The news of the ‘bomb’, which spread across the state capital, caused panic, with  motorists hurriedly taking to alternative routes and  causing serious traffic jam on such routes.
Also, shop owners within the metropolis locked up their shops and joined other residents in the race for safety amidst shouts of Bomb! Bomb! Bomb!, thereby causing more panic across the city.
The popular Kaduna Monday Market also closed abruptly, as traders rushed home, making calls to their family members to return home because of the rumours of another attack by Boko Haram insurgents.
However, a combined team of security personnel comprising men of the police anti-bomb squad, army and other security operatives hurriedly arrived the scene of the  bomb scare and cordoned off the area.
When contacted, the state police command spokesperson, Aminu Lawan (SP), confirmed the incident, and commended residents of the area for their vigilance.
Lawan said:  “There was such scare and panic but there was nothing as speculated. Our men, upon receiving the call, were deployed to the area and it was immediately cordoned off, while our anti-bomb squad carried out the required checks, and it was discovered that the sack contained waste polythene materials, no improvised explosive device (IED) was found in it.”
