Ortom who spoke when he received Chinese business delegation last week assured that the Federal Government would create an enabling environment for investors in the aviation industry, adding that government would be willing to work with genuine investors to float a national carrier, which he said the country needed urgently.
After receiving the Chinese business delegation led by Mr. Wang Wengbu to his office, the Minister stressed that it was gratifying to note that the Chinese aviation experts and bankers were in the country to further explore the opportunities for collaboration in the sector.
“While preliminary discussion had commenced, the partnership will involve stakeholders in both the private and public sectors that would be involved in the discussion and negotiation,” he said.
The minister explained that experts from government would involve officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCCAA) and the Nigeria Airspace Management Authority (NAMA) in the ongoing discussion.
According to him, with the meeting commencing immediately with the Chinese, Nigerian technical experts and members of the airlines of Nigeria, a sustainable programme would emerge that would usher the country into a stable aviation industry in the country.
Responding, the Director General of China’s corporation and the Managing Director of China Academy of Civil Aviation Science Technology, Messers Wang Wengsug and Znu Nuo, expressed confidence that the discussion would yield tremendous economic benefits to Nigeria.
Wengsug said China would be ready to go into strategic partnership with Nigeria, especially in the area of aviation because of the pool of expertise it can bring to bear on the industry.
He emphasised that China’s economic partnership was not hinged on exploitation but on win-win situation.
