Pele predicted yesterday that the hosts of the on going mundial are in for a repeat of what happened in 1962, when Brazil won the cup, even when he (Pele) got injured midway in the tournament and could not continue.
It was recalled that four years after winning their first World Cup, Brazil had to play without Pele in the 1962 tournament in Chile after he was injured against Czechoslovakia in the second game.
Pele wrote on Twitter last night: “It hurts our hearts to know that he (Neymar) can no longer defend Brazil in the World Cup. I was also injured during the 1962 World Cup in Chile, and I was out for the rest of the tournament. But God helped Brazil continue on to win the Championship. I hope the same will happen with our Selecao in this World Cup.”
Meanwhile Neymar had charged his team mates to win the tournament for him. The 22-year old Brazilian forward who had been flown by helicopter from Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo, as he began his recovery from a broken third vertebrae urged his team mates to get the job done. Neymar who spoke on Brazilian TV stated: “My dream is to play in the World Cup final but this time it did not work out. My dream is not ever, just interrupted. I am certain my teammates will do everything so that my dream to become champion comes true. God willing they will win and I will be by their side along with all Brazilians, celebrating.”
