As Giwa’s group insists on fresh polls
All appears not still well with Nigerian football despite the last minute escape from FIFA hammer last week.
SoccerStar gathered that negotiations between Pinnick Amaju’s group and that of Ambassador Chris Giwa over who gets what had broken down irretrievably, with the Giwa group insisting that only a fresh election will be a solution to the crisis.
A competent source close to Giwa’s group disclosed exclusively to SoccerStar that they had resolved not to settle for the committee jobs being dangled at them by the Amaju board, even as he pointed out that the Jos court case was only withdrawn and could be “resurrected” if the need arises. Our source further disclosed that the Presidency did not trash out all the contending issues at Aso Rock last week, as both parties were ordered to go and negotiate and make sacrifices in the interest of the nation.
He noted that the first and immediate sacrifice the Giwa group made was to withdraw its case from the court.
“I can confirm to you that both parties have been negotiating since leaving Aso Rock and the Giwa group is insisting on fresh polls. If they have their way, then the election will be annulled and thrown open to all the aggrieved parties. Don’t forget, the Appeals Committee is yet to decide if the election will be upheld or not and there are protests before it.”
It would be noted that the Appeals Committee is billed to meet next week.
Our source was quick to add: “Lets just put our fingers crossed and see what happens at the Appeals level. We are still in a dicey situation. Anything can still happen, depending on how the negotiations go. ”
It would be noted that Amaju had last week stated that Giwa’s group would be carried along in the scheme of things.
His words: “The football family is now more united and we assure the Giwa group that we will sit down and see how and where they can make lasting contributions to the development of the Nigeria game.”
