Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the February 14 elections, Muhammadu Buhari, will today flagoff his campaign in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
This is as the state government said it will mobilise 100,000 supporters to the 40,000 capacity Adokiye Amieseimaka Stadium, venue of the rally in Igwuritali, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
Director of Mobilisation for the rally, Chief Tony Okocha, who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday, was elated that Buhari decided to flag-off his campaign in the state.
Okocha explained that the Director-General of Buhari campaign organisation, Mr Chibuike Amaechi, the Rivers State governor, is the chief host of the event.
Noting that the rally will be unprecedented like the party’s first last year at the same venue, Okocha assured that the APC in the state would not hire a crowd and called on all party supporters to come out en-masse for the event.
On why the party’s presidential campaign was kicking off in the state, he said: ‘It will help change the pattern of voting in the state.”
Okocha added, “This is to inform you that the Presidential candidate of our great party, the APC and his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will flag-off their campaign here in (Rivers) on Tuesday (today).
“As I speak with you, all is set for the rally at the Adokiye Amieseimaka Stadium and we (the APC) are mobilising 100,000 supporters to the venue.
“The stadium has a 40, 000 capacity, but we expect an overflow. We assure our supporters and residents of the state that no negative incident will be recorded, as we have put measures in place, including security to ensure there is no untoward development.
‘‘The rally will be a tornado, it will be unprecedented.
We however appeal to our supporters to come out en-masse to give support to the party’s Presidential candidate and his team.”
