No fewer than 15 people including, 4 police officers have been killed
by dare-devil armed robbers during an operation yesterday at Ikare
Akoko in Akoko Northeast local government area of Ondo State.
According to eyewitness account, the bandits stormed the two places at about 3.00pm, using dynamite to blow up the bullet-proof doors of the bank so as to gain entrance.
Most of the victims of the attack, a source said, were killed while trying to cash money from the ATM machine.
Also, at the banks, eleven people were reportedly killed, while four policemen were killed at the police station in the operation that lasted for more than one hour uninterrupted, after which they headed towards Edo State.
Both social and economic activities in the ancient town were paralysed, as residents were running helter skelter for safety, while heavy sound of the dynamite and sporadic gunshots permeated the entire Jubilee area.
When contacted, the state police public relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Wole Ogodo, said he had not got information from Ikare Division as at the time of filing this report.
