Police arrest Ondo monarch over alleged fraud

Police arrest Ondo monarch over alleged fraud

Detectives from Ondo State Police Command at the weekend apprehended a traditional ruler in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state over an alleged N16 million fraud.
The embattled monarch was arrested by the police last Friday barely two years after he was chased away from the community over alleged fraud,  forgery, stealing and impersonation as well as disobedience to the traditions and customs of the community
His arrest was sequel to a petition written to the Ondo State commissioner of police by the people of the community through their counsel, Gabriel Ohre.
The monarch was alleged, among others, to have impersonated a staffer of Odigbo Local Government Area and defrauded the council of several millions of naira.
It was gathered that the monarch was arrested in Ondo town by men of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and whisked away to the state police command in Igbatoro, Akure
In the petition, the oba was alleged to have written fictitious names in the payment voucher of chiefs in the community.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Wole Ogodo, a deputy superintended (DSP), said the monarch was in police custody to answer some allegations levelled against him, adding that investigation had commenced, saying the suspect would be arraigned as soon as investigation was complicated.
