MASSOB warns army over member’s arrest in Aba

Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned the Nigerian Army over the arrest and detention of one of its members in Aba, Abia State.
Director of Information, Aba region of the movement, Chidi Okoro, who spoke on behalf of the Administrator, Madam Comfort Ogbuokiri, said one of their members, Nnamdi Uburu, 75, was arrested on May 30 by soldiers at the Obikabia Junction near Aba as he was travelling to Owerri for this year’s Biafra anniversary.
Ogbuokiri said Uburu was wearing Biafran camouflage when he was arrested, alleging that Uburu was thoroughly beaten up before he was taken to their base.
Madam Ogbuokiri said when her members got wind of the incident, they rushed to the army base at Obikabia but they were told that the man had been transferred to the Ngwa High School camp.
The Aba region administrator said she then sent some of her officials to the army camp at Ngwa High School, where they were again told that the man had been taken to the headquarters of 245 Battalion in Asa.
She stated that when the search team went to the army barracks at Asa, they were informed that no MASSOB member was brought to the place and were referred back to Ngwa High School.
The Army Public Relations Officer (APRO), 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia, could not be reached for comments. However, an army officer, who would not want his name in print, confirmed the arrest.
