OSUN 2014: PDP accuses Aregbesola of allegedly creating nest of thugs •Our candidate is too busy to engage in such pedestrian issue —APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State, on Wednesday, allegedly accused the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the August 9 governorship election, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, of creating a nest of thugs in the state, with a view to instill fear in the electorate.

It contended that the development was allegedly calculated at averting looming electoral calamity that may befall him like the defeat his counterpart in Ekiti State, suffered last week Saturday.

In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Strategy of Iyiola Omisore Campaign Organisation, Prince Diran Odeyemi, the PDP alleged that “APC thugs unleashed terror on members of our party in Ibokun, Ifewara, Iwo, Ilesa and some towns in Oriade Local Government Area of the state between Sunday evening and early morning on Monday, apparently to intimidate them”.

But, the APC Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr Kunle Oyatomi, said “APC and our candidate are too busy to be engaging in such pedestrian issue”, affirming that “it was unreasonable for the PDP to be making such accusation”.

According to him, “Aregbesola is too busy to be creating nest of thugs. We have succeeded in entrenching good governance and addressed the socio-economic need of our people. This is evident in the implementation of projects that have direct and positive impacts on the people”.

“Since we have started our campaigns, we have visited five federal constituencies and the massive turn out of people is a sign that Osun people appreciates good governance and enviable feat achieved by Governor Aregbesola,” Oyatomi stated.

The party, in a release signed by Prince Odeyemi and made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday, stated that some suspected political thugs had attacked some members of PDP in Ibokun, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area of the state, late Sunday evening, with dangerous weapons.

But, the PDP claimed that reports of the attacks on its members had been lodged with police authorities in the towns where the attacks were carried out.

“Those who sustained varying degrees of injury in the attack are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons. Our investigations revealed that some of the hoodlums APC had wanted to move to Ekiti through Oke-Ila end, but who were stopped at the entry point by security men are now in some strategic towns in Osun State, especially in Ijesaland, where obviously, the popularity of the incumbent governor has nosedived,” Odeyemi said.
