Late Bayero Rejected Bribe From Ex-Head Of State –Mark

Senate President David Mark yesterday said late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero once rejected financial inducement from a former head of state.

Speaking during debate on a motion over the demise of the late monarch, Mark said he was a forthright man who lived for the common good of his people and Nigeria at large.

Mark said Bayero was totally against Boko Haram and had discussed that with him personally on many occasions.

Senator Mark who didn’t name the said former head of state, said the ex- Nigeria leader gave Bayero a cheque and thereafter came back to ask him to do something that was against the people.

“He said no, I won’t do it and they later told him that the president gave you money one year ago. Bayero then called one of his sons and asked him to bring the cheque as he didn’t cash it. So he returned the cheque back to them,” the senate president said.

“How many people can do that?,” Mark asked.

“He never changed for 51 years he was in power. Very few people will have power and won’t change. Ado Bayero was gifted and his influence transcends Kano,” he said.

The senate president, who congratulated the new Kano Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, said it is time for all Nigerians to congratulate the new emir and support him.

Senators Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, Kabiru Gaya and Basheer Garba Lado who jointly sponsored the motion said the greatest characteristicsof the late Emir were the friendship he cultivated across religion, ethnic and regional divide throughout his reign.
