After months of careful planning and consultations with critical stakeholders, The Sun Publishing Limited has announced that it is holding its first ever women conference. Tagged The Sun Women Leadership Summit (SWLS), the three-day conference with the theme: The New Woman, Winning in a Man’s World, will be hosted by the Delta State Government between October 8 and 10, 2014 in Asaba, the state capital.
Speaking on the forthcoming event, business mogul and Chairman of The Sun Publishing Limited, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, said the women summit was an initiative of The Sun Group to support women as change agents in different sectors of Nigeria’s economy and society as it would bring those already in leadership positions to share their pains and gains and mentor the successor generation of female leaders.
“Nigerian women have come a long way from the days they could only be heard and they were just in charge of the kitchen and procreation. The Nigerian woman is resilient, dependable and hard working. And that is what The Sun Women Leadership Summit will celebrate every year. It will be an avenue to celebrate our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters. The Sun Women Leadership Summit will focus on where the Nigerian woman is coming from, where she is and where she is headed.” Kalu enthused.
The former governor of Abia State and Chairman of The Slok Conglomerate added that the Summit is The Sun’s way of appreciating a large group of its readership as well as boost President Goodluck Jonathan’s landmark achievement in giving women opportunities to serve the nation in different capacities and in all sectors of the economy.
“President Jonathan has, more than any leader in Nigeria’s history, given women their pride of place in the polity. He has appointed them to key positions and they have not let him down. The president has opened a new vista and chapter in history and the SWLS will celebrate that. Women who are already leaders and those who are aspiring to be leaders will be at the summit to share their pains and gains.”
Kalu also seized the opportunity to thank the Delta State Government for accepting to host the event.
“May I express our deep appreciation as an institution and personal gratitude to the good people of Delta State and my friend and brother, the Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, for generously agreeing to host this summit. We are indeed grateful and look forward to having a great time in Asaba,” Kalu said.
The SWLS will make the best use of every participant’s skills to enhance a better future for mentors and protégés to build the confidence of women to lead and how to drive cultural change in Nigeria.
